On Tuesday, Sep 1 at 7pm, Raleigh City Council will hear Raleigh Housing Authority’s request to rezone from RX-3 to DX-12 with conditions to provide additional height and flexibility for future phases of the Heritage Park redevelopment. Phase 1 is already beginning construction. Heritage Park is a multi-phase redevelopment expected to add substantially more housing. More zoning capacity gives RHA flexibility to fit more homes into future phases.
The rezoning includes a commitment for at least 122 homes affordable at or below 30% AMI for at least 30 years.
The site is near the planned Western Boulevard BRT corridor, making this an especially good place to allow more housing.
Affordable housing needs YIMBY supporters too.
We recently saw overwhelming organized opposition help stop an RHA affordable housing proposal in Cary. We can’t assume affordable housing will be approved just because the need is obvious.
