The 2025 municipal elections are over. Check out who won near you at WRAL.
In case you missed it, Election Day 2025 resulted in big victories for pro-housing candidates across the Triangle. Out of the 26 pro-housing candidates we identified in races large and small, we are thrilled to say that 18 of them were voted into office on Tuesday. From Wendell to Wake Forest, from Holly Springs to Hillsborough, people voted for elected officials that will lead on housing.
A couple of highlights from races that stood out to us:
Pro-housing candidates Dustin Ingalls and Deans Eastman were elected to the Town of Wendell Board of Commissioners.
Pittsboro voted to elect pro-housing candidate Candace Hunziker as a Town Commissioner, and re-elected pro-housing mayor Kyle Shipp.
In Morrisville, pro-housing mayor TJ Cawley held his seat, and pro-housing Harrison Kesling was elected to Town Council.
Durham voted to continue the pro-housing mayorship of Leonardo Williams, and replaced an anti-development council member with the pro-housing Matt Kopac.
It’s encouraging to see that voters recognize the need for housing progress, and yet we know there’s more work to be done. At CITYBUILDER, we look forward to continuing our advocacy by working with every elected official on pressing housing issues. After all, housing is the one thing we should agree on.
If there’s an elected official you’re excited about, drop us a line or comment to let us know.
Be sure to join us as we continue to expand our movement, deepen our community connections, and welcome the new folks moving here every day. Our work has always been about building a sustainable, pro-housing movement, not just about winning elections. Stay tuned as we gather leaders and community members alike to be part of critical conversations facing our region. The people voted; now the decisions made by elected representatives will directly impact how and when housing will be built.
We’ll be plenty busy in 2026, exploring and supporting the re-writes of Unified Development Ordinances in Durham, Chapel Hill, and a few other Triangle towns. We’ll publicize opportunities for input about large developments in Chatham Park and elsewhere. Plus, we’ll continue to learn and share pro-housing information about local candidates in Raleigh during their 2026 election. We’re excited to help advance the Comprehensive Plan in Raleigh as well.
Join us, won’t you? The CITYBUILDER Events Page has all of the events we host (in person and virtual), plus events by our local friends and allies, as well as opportunities for engagement throughout the Triangle. With elections over for now, we can’t wait to continue connecting and building this community with each of you. Check out our calendar for upcoming events and join when you can.
And as always, we hope you’ll continue to look to CITYBUILDER for pro-housing news, information, and opinion. In case you missed it, we’ve got a lot of great articles in the archives as well, whether you’re curious about who killed the neighborhood grocery store, why apartments belong near parks, or how densification is climate justice. Enjoy!
