Citizens Build Cities
MISSION
Citybuilder believes that growth is good, and even better when many people build together. We are building a central North Carolina grassroots pro-housing coalition as a member-based, local news outlet and advocacy organization.
Citybuilder believes that with better housing policy choices, Triangle cities will welcome new neighbors, build stability for all families, and create a stronger future where everyone has a place to live. We embrace a future for our cities that depends on building more housing because we know that more equitable and sustainable housing choices depend on a political and business ecosystem that supports positive and progressive change.
VALUES
Grassroots organizing and coalition building are at the core of our mission because Citybuilder wants to win hearts and minds, not just elections. We are building a movement of local members who are new politicians, activists, practitioners, young advocates, and Citybuilders themselves. We support and work in coalition with those ambitious individuals and organizations who enable a better future for the region.
Strong coalitions are diverse, with leaders from diverse backgrounds and values coming together to accomplish a common vision. CityBuilder welcomes that diversity. This manifesto of common values serves as our foundation. The values are chosen to attract members who maintain flexibility in disagreeing on other issues while at the same time being clear statements for our readers and members to know whether they share the values or not.
We Believe:
Everyone deserves housing choices.
Walkable urbanism is how we build a sustainable future.
Truth and transparency are essential to public discourse.
Tradespeople should be honored and celebrated.
Community resilience is built incrementally.
Cities are built by people with skin in the game.
Small businesses should be elevated & supported.
Positive change is made by diverse citizens acting together.
Do you share these values?
